Laser Scar Removal Cost
Laser scar removal is an effective treatment for removing unwanted scars and the cost of the treatment will vary depending on the exact type of treatment you require. There are many different types of lasers that are used in scar removal and different clinics will have their preferred choice.
The main 2 types of lasers that are used during laser scar removal are ablative lasers and fractional lasers.
Ablative lasers are generally used to treat more superficial scars which are caused by acne and skin conditions. This type of laser generally requires a longer period of recovery following the treatment.
Deeper scars which are normally caused by trauma are generally treated with Fractional lasers which target the deeper layers of skin. Fractional lasers tend to be slightly more expensive but the downtime required is much less than it is for ablative lasers. You can read more about the different types of laser scar removal here
Factors Affecting Laser Scar Removal Cost
There are a number of different factors that can affect the cost of the treatment and they are as follows:
Size of scar: Bigger scars will require more treatment time and therefore the cost will be higher. You are also likely to need more repeat treatments to get the optimum results.
Depth of scar: Superficial, surface scars are easier and quicker to remove than deeper scars and the cost of treatment will therefore be less.
Type of laser used: A clinic using the very latest laser scar removal equipment is likely to charge more for the treatment but you can expect the results to be better.
Fractional or ablative: Fractional lasers are used to treat deeper scars and tend to be more expensive than ablative scars. The recovery period is however considerably shorter which is an advantage.
Practitioner: A medically trained practitioner is likely to charge more for the treatment than one who is not medically trained.
Location: Clinics located in bigger cities and more affluent areas are likely to charge more as a result of the higher rental prices for their premises.
Typical Cost of Laser Scar Removal
The price per treatment is likely to range between £200 and £400 depending on the type of laser that is being used. As mentioned above, fractional lasers are likely to cost more than ablative lasers and you will only know which type you will need after you have had a consultation with a practitioner. During a consultation your practitioner will also assess the size, depth and type of scar and advise you on the best course of treatment. Larger scars are likely to require as many as 6 repeat treatments so you will need to factor this in to the price.
