Glycolic peel is a type of chemical peel
that uses Glycolic acid to regenerate and rejuvenate your skin. Glycolic acid is found naturally in fruit which is one of the reasons why it is such a popular treatment. The peel works by stimulating the skin to shed its old damaged surface skins cells to reveal new healthier cells below.
As our skin ages the natural process of shedding and replacing old skin with new skin happens less frequently. This means we can be left with an outer layer of dead skin cells on our face, which can make us look older and more tired than we actually are.
The Glycolic peel will effectively remove this outer layer of dead skin and reveal younger, fresher skin cells underneath which can markedly improve the appearance of your face.
Glycolic peel is generally recommended for the following:
Fine lines: The appearance of fine lines can be improved with a Glycolic peel providing they are only shallow. There are limitations to what the peel can treat so it is important that you understand this. If you have deep frown lines you will need to consider another treatment such as Botox or dermal fillers.
Ageing skin: Skin peels are not a cure for ageing skin but they can make the skin look healthier and more vibrant.
Tired looking skin: By revealing a fresh layer of skin cells the peel will make you look visibly less tired.
Reduce acne: Glycolic peels can improve the appearance of acne for some people although this is by no means guaranteed. The peel will not however be beneficial for people with bad acne of for those with acne scars.
What Does Glycolic Peel Involve?
The whole procedure will typically take no longer than 20 minutes so it can be easily performed in a lunch break.
Before the peel is applied your face will be thoroughly cleansed.
The Glycolic peel is then applied and left on for about 3 – 4 minutes. Most people experience a slight stinging sensation when the peel is applied but nothing worse than that.
After 4 minutes the peel is then thoroughly washed off.
You can expect your face to look slightly pink after the peel has been removed but very quickly your skin will look visibly healthier and smoother. It is normal for there to be some minor peeling for a few days following the treatment.
How Much Does Glycolic Peel Cost?
This will vary between clinicians but the normal price is around £70 - £80 per treatment. Don’t forget you may need more than one treatment depending on the condition of your skin. It is during a consultation that your practitioner will assess the health of your skin and decide on the amount of peels that you are likely to need to achieve the desired results.
