Derma RollerDerma Roller

Derma roller therapy is a non-surgical treatment that can be used to treat a variety of skin complaints. Derma roller works by naturally increasing the amount of collagen and elastin in your skin, which leaves it looking healthier and younger looking.

Many skin conditions such as scars and wrinkles are caused by a lack of collagen in your skin. Stimulating the skin to increase its collagen production can lead to a significant improvement in your appearance. The most common uses of derma roller are to treat the following:

  • Aged and sun damaged skin: Derma roller is an effective treatment providing the damage is not too extensive.
  • Acne scars: By increasing collagen production the appearance of scars can be reduced.
  • Facial lines and wrinkles: The appearance of fine lines and wrinkles can be improved with a derma roller. There are however limitations to what can be treated and if you have deep lines and wrinkles you will have to consider either Botox treatment or Dermal fillers.
  • Stretch marks: Derma roller can be used to treat stretch marks caused by pregnancy and weight gain. As is the case with wrinkles, only relatively mild stretch marks can be treated

How Does Derma Roller Work?

A derma roller is a hand held rolling device which has around 190 fine surgical steel micro needles. These fine needles penetrate the top layers of skin to a depth of about 1.5 mm. The derma roller is gently rolled over the treatment area during which time you will feel a mild tickling sensation. This micro skin needling stimulates your skin to repair and regenerate itself, producing fresh collagen in the process. As the skin regenerates it leads to smoother, healthier looking skin.

Does Derma Roller Hurt?

The simple answer to this is no. Generally speaking the derma roller is applied gently and produces only a mild ticking effect. If the derma roller has to be applied more aggressively, a local anaesthetic cream will be used prior to the treatment. Following the procedure you are likely to have a slightly red face and it will have a similar feeling to mild sun burn. After the procedure vitamin rich creams and moisturisers will be used to aid the recovery and the results.

How Much Does Derma Roller Cost?

The cost of derma roller varies greatly from one clinic to another and the typical price range is between £200 - £400. This is the price for one session but some people may need more than one treatment depending on the condition of their skin and what exactly it is that needs treating.
