Sweating is a normal physiological response whose main function is to cool us down when we overheat. For certain individuals however, excessive sweating can be a major problem and may occur constantly regardless of the temperature. Excessive sweating can affect the whole body but it is most commonly associated with the arm pits, feet and hands.
The condition can lead to reduced self-confidence / self-esteem and can greatly affect a person's life. The cause of sweating varies for different individuals with the most common reasons being stress or overheating. For some people however the sweating is a constant menace without any obvious triggers or causes.
Although Botox is generally associated with cosmetic treatments it can also be used to treat people who suffer from excessive sweating. Excessive sweating, which has the medical name Hyperhidrosis is quite a common problem with a prevalence of around 2% of the population.
The reason we sweat is because our sweat glands receive a message from the nerves that supply them which triggers off this physiological response. If you suffer from excessive sweating then these messages are being sent too frequently to the sweat glands. Often such people will sweat without the normal stimulus required for sweating such as heat or stress
