About Baddow Hospital

Baddow Hospital is the newest private hospital in the county. The building itself is a contemporary design with very modern interiors that create both a cosy and clinical environment. Ther are over 120 car parking spaces and landscaped grounds.

We are just 15 minutes from junction 28 of the M25, and can be reached by travelling eastwards up the A12 and taking the Great Baddow exit.

Our diagnostic equipment is second to none, as we have excellent point of care testing facilities covering blood, chemistry and hormone analysis. Our operating theatre is the latest Olympus fully-integrated design. We also feature the latest Samsung Accuvix ultrasound mahine with a large scale wide screen monitor.

We have spacious clinical spaces and discrete recovery areas, and some delightful ensuite bedrooms for the longer stay.

Mr. Jonathan Britto

Mr Britto graduated as a Bachelor of Science with first-class Honours and, in 1990, became a prize–winning graduate in Medicine from the University of London. He trained in basic surgery in London and Boston (USA) as a Clinical Fellow in Surgery to Harvard University. He undertook higher training in General Plastic Surgery in London and Boston where he gained further skills in general plastic surgical reconstruction, abdominal and breast contour surgery.

Mr Britto is a Consultant Plastic and Craniofacial surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and University College Hospital in London, having commenced in consultancy at the St Andrew’s Centre for Plastic Surgery in Chelmsford. His specialist interests are in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery of the face, particularly oculoplastic (eyelid) surgery and nasal surgery (aesthetic rhinoplasty and reconstruction). He has adapted many techniques in facial aesthetic and reconstructive surgery which crossover for the benefit of patients in both fields. He also has a specialist interest in facial rehabilitation after facial palsy, previous trauma, and unfavourable primary surgical result.

Mr Britto maintains and enjoys a broad cosmetic surgery practice for bespoke breast augmentation, breast reduction and rebalancing, as well as body contour work.

Mr. Philip Robarts

After studying medecine at Edinburgh University and commencing his early career posts in Edinburgh, Mr Robarts moved south to East Anglia and become Senior Registrar at the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital and Addenbrookes Hospital, where he held Honorary Lecturer Status.

In 1988 he was appointed Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Mid Essex Hospitals initially working at St John’s Hospital and Broomfield Hospital. He was was also Director of Clinical Studies for Undergraduate students from the Cambridge University Medical School for 10 years. He subsequently became Clinical Director of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Directorate.

Mr Robarts has pioneered a number of surgical procedures in England such as the “Adiana” hysteroscopic sterilisation as well as the single incision urethral sling procedure for stress incontinence. In 2008 he and a colleague were awarded the Barker Brettel Award for Medical Technology having devised a new surgical instrument to faciltate the simple removal of uterine polyps.

Well published, Mr Robarts has authored numerous publications but is perhaps best known for “Preparing for Pregnancy” (1988) and with C. Spencer “The Management of Adnexal Masses in Pregnancy” 2006. When not in his consulting rooms Mr Robarts enjoys fishing in the country or partaking in a full-blooded game of tennis with his twin daughters.

Mr. Ranjan Thilagarajah

After studying at Charing Cross Hospital and Westminster Medical School, Mr Thilagarajah attained a Master of Surgery Degree at Imperial College School of Medicine, investigating the causes, diagnosis and treatment of painful bladder disease and interstitial cystitis. In 2001 he was subsequently admitted to the Specialist Register for Urology (CCST), the FRCS (Urol). He advanced his training as a laparoscopic urological surgeon as Urology Senior Fellow at Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane, Australia.

Returning to England, he received specialist training in Stone Surgery at the Institute of Urology at the Middlesex Hospital, before his appointment as a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Mid Essex Health Services NHS Trust. Mr Thilagarajah was the Clinical Lead in Urology until 2012 and remains the Robotic Surgery Services Clinical Lead for Broomfield Hospital. He assisted in the creation of the Robotic Kidney Service in his role as Honorary Consultant Urological Surgeon at the Royal Marsden Hospital.

In 2005, Mr Thilagarajah was at the forefront of setting up the GreenLight laser prostate service at Broomfield Hospital which won an NHS Innovations award. Mr Thilagarajah’s eclectic pastimes range from gardening to vintage cars rallying, and he occasionally indulges in some skiing. In 2008 he completed the Monte Carlo Rallye Historique with the Broomfield Laser Charitable Appeal raising over £220,000 for medical equipment.
